About Jamal Sullivan

profpicI am passionate about art and passionate about animation. The creation of animation as art is a worthwhile and necessary endeavor, and certainly what I strive to create in my finished work.

As an artist, I am very much interested in continuing to explore animation as art as well as expand my practical knowledge of animation as craft. My personal focus is on character animation and visual storytelling. Moving forward I am creating work that incorporates many different digital and traditional medium together to create artwork that is kinetic and malleable. I am also dedicated to helping students realize their potential and become dedicated members of the animation community. I believe in providing guidance and inspiration. Access and example are important parts of my teaching philosophy. Curiosity about how to uniquely move forward becomes a necessary trait in my classrooms.

As a professor, I stress independent thinking and constant practice of craft. My students are encouraged to expand their abilities and explore innovative approaches to creating engaging and powerful animated imagery. I have worked different jobs in many different types of animation pipeline, including 3D visual effects, 3D animated feature, 2D cartoon, and 3D web-based. This wealth of different experience has made me an accomplished 3D animator and modeler and a strong digital illustrator. I am also a confident generalist with a good understanding of many different ways of problem solving.

Along with my classroom and commercial experience, I have a strong interest in community service. I periodically do workshops or example lectures with different youth organizations locally. Ultimately, I am interested in creating powerful and meaningful imagery and helping other artists achieve their goals in animated imagery.
